The American Camp Association (ACA) is a community
of camp professionals who, for nearly 100 years,
have joined together to share knowledge and experience
and to ensure the quality of camp programs. This
is done through educating camp owners and directors
in the administration of the key aspects of camp
operation, program quality, and health and safety of
campers and staff, establishing guidelines for needed
policies, procedures, and practices, and assisting
the public in selecting camps that meet industry-accepted
    and government recognized standards.

As a leading authority in child development,
ACA works to preserve, promote, and improve the
camp experience. The association is committed to
helping members and all camps provide camp
communities committed to a safe, nurturing environment,
caring, competent adult role models, healthy,
    developmentally-appropriate experiences, service
to the community and the natural world, opportunities
for leadership and personal growth, discovery,
    experiential education, and learning opportunities
    and excellence and continuous self-improvement.

ACA accredits over 2,400 camps. ACA-AccreditedŽ
camps meet up to 300 standards for health, safety,
    and program quality.

During 2007, the Camp Ojibway staff, directors, and
ministry team went through a long process of
attempting to become accredited by the American Camp
Association. Many hours of preparation led up to an
all day visit by members of ACA who supervised camp
activities and poured over written documentation of
how Camp Ojibway is run. It was an exciting and
educational day for the camp team. Camp Ojibway scored
well, but the news about official accreditation would
not come until October. The news came in late October
that Camp Ojibway is now a nationally accredited camp.
This brings our camp program to a new level and has
helped the team through some program and policy issues
that had not been thought about. The camp team also
feels that this new accreditation postions us to be
more invitational with friends, other churches and user
groups to join us at the place we affectionately call C.O.

Please especially thank Sheryl Hjellming and Keith Koenig
for their hours helping the directors become ready for
the official "visit"! We are excited for the future
and the way God will continue to lead at C.O.
